I’ve been on such a fitness kick for the last couple of weeks, so this post seemed like a solid addition to the editorial calendar for H+H.
On Monday, I shared with y’all my Healthy Week in My Life vlog, where I recorded my workouts, meals, & activities for a week. I don’t always live THAT clean, but I wanted to try to go a full week making my ideal healthy meals & getting my butt to the gym on a schedule.
I tried to focus on food that was easy to make at home, and recipes that were affordable in terms of buying supplies in bulk and re-using them for various meals. For example: oatmeal, (gluten-free) pasta, eggs, frozen smoothie supplies, etc.
I realize that I eat A LOT of tomatoes, avocado, & berries, as I have 1-2 of those items in each meal I eat, LOL. I’m always stocked up.
You can find all of my meals & detailed workouts from last week in the description box under the video. Also, make sure to watch the video if you’re confused about any of the workout moves!
In this post, I wanted to go a little more in detail about my overall fitness regime & perspective on food in general, and what I do to stay healthy(ish).

Fitness Regime
I try to workout for AT LEAST 30 minutes a day ( usually longer ), at least 5 days a week. I switch off days doing cardio or HIIT intervals and doing strength training circuits or lower-intensity workouts. If I’m really feeling shitty one day, I take the day off OR go on a long walk with my dog.
I believe that staying in shape should be a fun part of life. Okay, let’s stop there, because I know many of you are eye-rolling so hard. Every fitness-psycho person I’ve ever known talks about how working out should be exciting & magical, which isn’t the most realistic perspective, in my opinion.
More often than I’d like to admit, I have to absent-mindedly drag my ass to the gym before I realize what I’ve done ( at that point, I’m already there, and I have to get to work. ) Most of us can agree that the post-workout feeling DOES feel pretty badass.
Lately, motivating myself to workout has been a full-time job, but my little tricks are working. So, here’s what’s up:
♥ I’m getting active OUTSIDE OF the regular gym setting. I enjoy activities like hiking, running outdoors, gymnastics class, & doing other weird “workouts” like trapeze, as I documented on Instagram stories not too long ago. If the gym sounds boring, I’ll go get active some other way. On days I’m planning on doing cardio, I’ll go on a long hike or doing running intervals outside in the evening. If I’m not feeling like doing strength circuits at the gym, I’ll go to a gymnastics class.
♥ TBH, my gym membership is pretty expensive. And this is a huge incentive to go, LOL. I’m a member at Equinox, and the steep monthly price is worth it ( to me ) if I’m using the facilities on a regular basis. BTW- if you’re considering joining Equinox, I highly recommend it ( also, feel free to reach out, because I think if I refer you, you get an initial discount or some shit ).
♥ I think about how lucky I am to be able get active, & I’m learning to appreciate the act of moving. Okay, this sounds kind of corny, but it’s been a huge motivator for me lately. I’ve seen a LOT of older men/women in the gym lifting their mini weights, walking on the treadmills, stretching, etc ( RESPECT ). When I’m working out, I often think of the future and getting older, and try to imagine physically not being able to sprint, lift, & move like I want to.
This is going to happen to all of us at some point. At 23, I can already feel my body aging, and I plan on taking full advantage of my ability to train the way I want to for as long as I can. I’m thankful for my body, so I’m going to use it and treat it right.
I know entirely too many people who look at people who work out daily like they’re “trying too hard.” There are few things more frustrating to me. Laziness isn’t COOL, okay?? Everyone gets a little lazy sometimes, and that’s totally fine, but if you’re able, you should get outside or get in the gym and experience that. Prioritizing your body isn’t “trying too hard.”
♥ I look at working out as ME time. First of all, I enjoy working out alone as much as possible. It allows me to get in the zone and focus on my body. A few days a week, after working out at the gym, I make time to hop in the steam room ( with my cold Eucalyptus towels, thx Equinox ), shower, and go through my skincare routine at the gym. I like working out later in the night, so it’s the perfect routine to relax and reset after a long day.
I’m sure many of you have seen my snaps leaving the gym, body covered in coconut oil, wearing sweats, feeling FRESH. It’s such a treat.
My Food Life
As far as diet goes, my motto is simple: try to feed your body what it needs. I want to keep my digestive system working efficiently, as crappy digestion is connected to inflammation, which is at the root of a number of dangerous conditions/diseases. I want to feel energized, alert, & strong, so I’m shaping my diet to afford me those things.
For most meals, I like to have a protein, a healthy fat, & complex carbs. As long as I can get my hands on those three things, I’m content.
Also, I’m highly allergic to gluten, so I stay away from it. LOL, I documented what my face looks like after accidentally ( i.e. drunkenly ) consuming gluten in last week’s vlog ( swollen & HUGE ).
After doing lots of research ( & watching What The Health on Netflix ), I’m trying to transition to a more plant-based diet. Instead of abruptly becoming vegan, I’m slowly working meals into my normal diet that contain protein that isn’t meat, fish or eggs. Because I’m already gluten-free, it can be difficult to implement even more dietary restrictions, but I’m TRYING.
I believe my body will thank me for it later.
Like I said before, I know SO many people who look at leading a healthy lifestyle as “trying too hard.” Especially where I come from, people glorify eating crap because it’s “cool” to “give no fucks.”
If there is something to give fucks about, it’s your health. Being healthy, listening to your body, and feeding it adequate nutrients is fucking cool. You don’t have to be obsessive, but you should care. Of course, all of us cheat or slip up sometimes ( I personally enjoy Tequila & snacked-sized McFlurries every so often ), but generally respecting your body isn’t “trying too hard.”
In summary, my healthy mission statement: feed my body what it needs, don’t treat it like a trash can, and take advantage of my ability to be active, because eventually I’m going to be old/decrepit, and unable to run, jump, stretch, and train the way I want to.
I’ve partnered with Finish Line to share today’s post, and I’m wearing a Nike hoodie and some SICK Adidas sneakers ( which they also have in grey ) in this activewear look. The curation of activewear & athleisure on Finish Line’s website is really giving me life.
They are carrying the best sneakers for fashionable fitness right now, I’m loving everything Adidas, Nike, and Puma in their Women’s sneaker section. making your activewear interesting is another thing that will get you active.
Speaking of getting active, I’m headed to take Drogo on a hike in the Pacific Palisades today, and I MIGHT just go to a gymnastics class ( read more about that here ) later today, if I’m feeling ambitious.
If you’re new around here, and you’re into healthy lifestyle-type posts, make sure to check out my healthy recipe index for some of my go-to recipes.
What do y’all do to stay active?? Anyone do weird things like gymnastics & trapeze???
Talk soon. xx

I love this Payton! Esp the note about “trying too hard”. My friends are like blown away when I say I get up at 6am to go to the gym most mornings. I LOVE starting my day with a kickass workout, and have so much energy for the whole day. That should be the norm!
