My first bit of New York Fashion Week content is coming to y’all today, and we’re talking about my love for street style and dressing out-there outfits down with sneakers. Before we talk specific styling tips, let’s talk about WHY I love the trainer trend right now.
Theres a number of reasons I like adding athletically-inclined elements to my daily style. First, wearing sneakers ( especially in a city like New York, when it’s raining ) is just about the most CONVENIENT thing in the world.
Second, a true training sneaker ( as opposed to a classic white sneaker ) gives off the vibe that you’ve got places to go. Like, yeah my outfit is bomb, but more importantly, I have things to do immediately. There’s just something so cool-girl about it.
ALSO ( this was an important one for me during New York Fashion Week ), styling athletic sneakers with both street style looks AND my gym clothes cuts down on my packing list. My bags for NYFW were SO HEAVY, so any corners I could cut were cut.
Enter: Nike’s updated Epic React shoe.
I did a little experiment styling up my sneakers post-gym with outfits I wore around town to meetings, shopping, & hanging with friends.
I picked up the my Epic React sneaker in the Black/Dark Grey/Wolf Grey/White color way, but there are SO MANY other new color ways I wanted equally as badly. I’m into the neutral & pastel options Nike has in this shoe as well.
And, don’t forget, you can always customize your shoe to your exact liking on Nike’s website. Just sayin’.
Let’s talk outfits I like styling athletic shoes with:
Gym-Wear: obviously. My Epic React shoes are my go-to workout shoe at the moment. I like styling them with a matching two-piece set while I’m working out.
Athleisure, Lounge-Wear: a pair of sneakers complements a sweatsuit, T-shirt dress, or a crop + biker shorts perfectly. Most of the time, you can find me in one of the above.
Classic Graphic Tee + Jeans: I LOVE this look so much. I wear my Epic React’s with a distressed black band tee & a pair of distressed jeans or shorts all the time. It’s my go-to daily look at the moment.
Sweater Dresses: the second it gets a little more chilly in LA, I’m going to be wearing oversized sweater dresses and sneakers like it’s my job ( which, I guess it kind of is? ).
What do y’all think?
I know you’ve all seen my style my every day outfits with casual white sneakers, but how are y’all liking this new athletic-sneaker trend?? How do y’all style your sneaks?
Talk soon, beebs!
