Ahhhh, Sunday.
Y’all won’t believe the weekend I’ve had.
To start off, I worked the For Love & Lemons sample sale last Friday. Two words: Mad House. I mean, yes, FL&L is amazing (I mean, why do you you think I chose, with my own free-will, to intern there???), and yes, the diggs were so cheap… but some girls get a leetle too crazy when it comes to this sample sale business.
I’m talking waiting-at-the-door-for-6-hours-to-be-first kind of madness. I shit-you-not: I witnessed 3 separate arguments/fights over clothes. You know those ‘the girls have gone wild’ scenes from Mean Girls? That is the best way to describe how I spent my Friday. I was Mr. Duvall (AKA: the principal). The LOVE for FL&L was really, really, real on Friday.
Saturday, I attended the Create + Cultivate Conference, which was an absolute DREAM of an experience. I can’t wait to share more from the conference very soon! Sneak-peek: I met some seriously inspiring bloggers, learned about Instagram-Success from Whitney Port, The Fat Jew, & Julianne Hough, gawked at the design set-up (really… gawked), drank iced coffee & cocktails, and ate blogger-approved, aesthetically- & tastebud-pleasing food. All day. Photos & more details to come.
So this coffee tho.
To make waking up bright and early every morning a little easier, I like to have some sort of morning treat to look forward to. Lately, its been this Coconut Oil & Butter “Latte.” So y’all are thinking, yeah ew. Thats what I thought at first, so I don’t blame you, but I DO encourage you to trust me & try it.
A little about the health benefits of this combo:
First, let’s start with the Coconut Oil. I’m going to reference one of my favorite blogs, The Skinny Confidential, here because Lauryn (blogging badass) summed it all up very nicely:
“Coconut oil benefits: it helps our bodies gain a resistance to both viruses & bacterias that cause illness. The oil also helps fight off gross yeast, sickie fungus, & aids in managing blood sugar control. It can boost thyroid function to increase the metabolism & energy. This sexy oil also helps with digestion & reduces cholesterol.
Not enough?
Coconut fats have magical, mystical fats called medium chain triglycerides ( I feel SO profesh using words like that! ). Research shows that breaking down these bad boys in the liver can lead to efficient burning energy. One study followed a babe that ingested two tablespoons of coconut oil daily for twelve weeks. Check this out: not only did she not gain weight, she actually lowered her belly fat ( << a super difficult area to lose weight )” See Her Full Post Here.
As far as the butter, make sure that you get organic, grass-fed butter. Don’t skimp and go for some funky-ass, generic butter here, because 1) ew and 2) ew ew. No margarine either. Just… no.
Butter really isn’t this crazy enemy that it has been made out to be. Do your research babes:: this is a great source for debunking butter myths. Here’s a little summary of the buttery-benefits:
1. Butter’s saturated fat content is a healthy source of energy for your bod.
2. Grass-Fed butter is loaded with Vitamin K, which helps to keep calcium from building up in your arteries, reducing your risk for heart disease. Vitamin K also reduces risk for osteoporosis.
3. Butter is an anti-inflammatory. So, yes please.
Bottom line? All this saturated fat in the morning is essential for brain function, heart health, and maintaining your energy (ya know, so you can sit at your computer & focus on your Pinterest while you’re supposed to be listening to your professor/ doing your job/ doing whatever it is that you are supposed to be doing). Also, if you’re in a hurry (me, always), this coffee has sufficient calories and fats to supplement a meal, which is probably why its a major go-to for me.
Okay, blah, blah, blah, benefits & stuff. Let’s talk about how to make this super-charged coffee.
What You Will Need:
» 1-2 Cups of Black Coffee (Hot & Ready To Go!)
» 1 Tablespoon Grass-Fed, Organic Butter
» 1 Teaspoon Coconut Oil
How-To:
1. Brew your coffee.
2. Pour hot coffee (1-2 cups) into a blender.
3. Add Butter & Coconut Oil.
4. Blend for about 30 seconds.
When you turn the blender off, you’ll see why I refer to this as a “latte.” It froths up straight-up latte style, and I cannot get enough of it (because I feel like a real Starbucks barista). You won’t need to add sugar, because its just that heavenly all on it’s own (I add a dash of cinnamon on top if I’m feelin’ a little crazy).
Thoughts? Do you add anything weirdo-status to your morning coffee? (I can see this going in some actually weird directions, so just, no, don’t do it.)
xx
