If you’re following me on Instagram, you probably noticed I spent quite a bit of time in my neighborhood Skin Laundry last month, going in weekly for their Laser & Light facial. Well: let’s talk about WHY I chose Skin Laundry & what this magical, quick little facial did for my skin.
Let’s start at the beginning: I was extremely lucky during my teenage years. I didn’t have much acne, and I didn’t have to try too hard to keep my skin clear. I guess you could say I got a little spoiled by that luck.
During my senior year of college, about a year & a half ago, my skin went CRAZY on me. For the first time in my life, I experienced deep, cystic acne on my cheeks and more superficial, hormonal acne on my chin.
Cystic acne, for those of you who don’t know, are those deep, mound-like pimples that you can’t pop or get rid of ( though you shouldn’t pop pimples anyways! ). It’s the absolute worst.
Being impatient, I was always messing with these deep pimples, causing more damage.
Though this phase only lasted a few months, those deep, cystic pimples caused somewhat-permanent damage in the form of acne scars. I’m a perfectionist, so any discoloration on my skin is just a huge NO for me ( besides freckles, because those are the cutest ).
I tried to get rid of hyper-pigmentation by implementing regular exfoliation with gentle peel pads into my weekly skincare routine. This treatment has been helping, but, like I said, I’m impatient, so I researched online for something that would give me faster results.
Enter: Skin Laundry’s Laser & Light Facial.
If you don’t live near a SL location, I’m sure you can find something similar near you! I’d definitely try to find a dermatologist who can do something like this for you.
The Dirty Details
Skin Laundry’s signature Laser & Light facial uses a 2-Step System featuring a combination of a YAG Laser & IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment.
The laser deep cleans the skin by vaporizing dirt, make-up, debris & pollutants deep within your pores. It also breaks down pigment ( getting rid of dark spots over time! ) & stimulates collagen, allowing skin to rejuvenate at a faster rate, which helps to smooth & tighten the skin.
The IPL targets the surface of the skin to improve discoloration (redness or brown spots), kill acne-causing bacteria & even out skin tone.
Immediate Benefits
– Vaporizes dirt and removes bacteria
– Improves dull complexion and unevenness
– Tightens and brightens skin
– Leaves skin softer, smoother, radiant, & glowing
Long-Term Benefits
– Helps reduce sun damage & early signs of aging
– Reduces overall redness
– Clears acne and helps prevent future breakouts
– Reduces the visible appearance of pores
– Evens skin tone, texture
– Reduces the visible amount of scarring on the skin from acne lesions and cysts
– Reduces hyper-pigmentation, unevenness, sun spots, age spots, and melasma
– Diminishes visible broken capillaries
– Stimulates collagen and elastin production
– Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
I have heard a LOT about using IPL to get rid of dark spots, but I haven’t noticed anyone else pairing the IPL with the laser to achieve a longer-lasting result.
The facial takes about 15 minutes to complete ( a freaking DREAM ), and I suggest doing 3-5 treatments to get a super bomb result. My acne scars began to fade following the first treatment, and after my 4th, my skin looks clearer, and feels cleaner, than ever.
Following your facial, you’re going to want to wear TONS of sunscreen, as the laser & light treatments make your skin extra-sensitive to sun damage. You don’t want to develop NEW dark spots as you’re trying to rid yourself of the old ones!
This laser & light facial allows products to penetrate much deeper into the skin, so the first 24 hours following your facial is PRIME TIME to throw on a sheet mask or a hydrating mask of your choice. I really like Skin Laundry’s own hydrating sheet masks. They get the job done.
Skin Laundry lets you try your first laser & light facial for free, so for those of you who live near a SL location ( they have a number of locations in CA, AZ, NY and salons in the UK & in Hong Kong! ): DO. IT.
After your first one, you can buy these treatments in singles, or you can purchase in packages of 3, 5, and 10 to save a little money in the long-run. In comparison to similar treatments at the dermatologist’s office, SL’s pricing is UNREAL.
If you aren’t lucky enough to live near a Skin Laundry, like I said before, I’m sure you can find a derm near you who offers a similar treatment. I know IPL is pretty popular.
I’m definitely going to do these facials a couple times a month to continue to even out my skin tone. They’re addicting! Also, I’m really digging how little time the laser & light facial takes… it’s a quick way to indulge yourself & treat your skin. It’s perfect for the busy girl.
Have any of y’all tried a form of this facial anywhere before?? What did y’all think?
If you have any questions about my experience with this facial, don’t hesitate to ask on Instagram or Snapchat! We can discuss.
Talk soon, babes! xx

I need to try this treatment! The same thing happened to me… I grew up with clear skin and then all of a sudden I had awful acne last summer. Now I have been left with acne scars that I can’t even seem to cover with makeup. I will need to find a place in Dallas that does this.
Thanks for sharing your advice Payton!
